Say it with me: Dry Shampoo.
I have long, thick hair with fine strands that tends to go oily a day or so after washing. That said, I’ve been known to go days..ok more than a week.. without washing my hair, all thanks to the wonders of dry shampoo.
This. Shit. Is. Legit.
This (inexpensive!) brand is my die-hard favorite. It comes full-sized (I buy it in cases of 6) or travel-sized, has multiple scents and shades for all sorts of hair, and IT. JUST. WORKS.
Some brands are hard to use and basically involve pouring powder onto your head and hoping for the best. Not this one.
This dry shampoo can take my hair from looking like I just cracked an egg on my scalp to big, beautiful, bouncing locks that appear to be freshly washed and blown out.
I’m not kidding: On a recent 11-day trip abroad, I washed and meticulously blew out my hair just before leaving for the airport and an 8-hour flight. I kept it pinned into a chic, neat bun while in transit to stay polished and avoid touching it.
With a careful combination of the following, I was able to go THE ENTIRE 11 DAY TRIP without having to take the time or energy to wash my hair.
- keeping it dry outside and in the shower (shower cap, hat, and hood game strong)
- keeping my gross hands OUT of it (VERY important to avoid oil transfer)
- sleeping on my silk pillowcase
- using a strong crease-free clip to wrap it into a night bun for sleep and showering
- using spin pins for chignons to keep elastic bumps away
- and healthy daily doses of – you guessed it – dry shampoo
This saved me HOURS of valuable vacation and rest time that would otherwise have been spent washing, rinsing, drying, styling, and repeating. No thanks.
I realize that going 11 days without washing your hair isn’t a viable option for everyone.
Textures, lengths, types, sudden rainstorms, and all sorts of factors can provide for a different experience, but keep these practices in mind and modify them into a process that works for you.
Even just reducing the number of times you have to fully wash, dry, and style your hair can decrease your travel stress and packed liquids, giving you more time to spend relaxing on your trip. #NamasteInBed
Of course, like with anything else, I have specific best practices for using dry shampoo. I’m talking about things like how to hold your head and move the can, how to best manipulate the powder in your hair, and how to avoid looking like the snow queen. TRY IT.
