Hiya! I’m Aurora Bird. So glad you found me.
This blog was born out of my desire to collect my tips, tricks and advice gleaned from my real-life travel experiences.
(the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the very, very ugly).
I believe that travel is essential to the human experience and fosters a spirit of compassion for
other humans and the Earth itself that cannot be gained in any other way.
That said- I get it:
Travel can be scary.
It can induce anxiety.
It can seem unattainable.
It can seem too glamorous or too expensive or too confusing or too difficult or too dangerous to achieve.
I feel all of those things too.
Even if you can only travel through books, blogs and other media or vicariously through someone else’s journeys, the lessons that come from travel are invaluable for true human empathy and for getting the most out of life.
In the weeks and days leading up to a big trip (especially if I’m going alone!) I find myself questioning, doubting, wondering:
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!
THIS ISN’T SAFE!
WHAT IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG?!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN?!
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!”
(like, full-on mini panic attack style)
But still, I go. And I want you to go too- whatever ‘going’ looks like for you.
It’s my hope that in sharing my quirks and ideas for more mentally and physically comfortable travel
as well as the amazing places I see along the way, you might come to understand that you can go too.
You can get out there, stay safe and connect with different cultures and different people for an enlightening experience beyond your wildest homebound dreams.
Travel forces us to flex and bend into shapes and situations that make us more understanding of the diverse world we sometimes forget that we live in.
Culture shock can be constructive- if you let it.
As your perspective broadens you might feel growing pains, but in the end, you’ll be taller, stronger, and maintain a clearer view of the world.
Every wall or border dividing humanity has two sides.
You have to be able to see both sides to see both perspectives.
The more you experience- either through actual travel or just a traveler’s mindset, the more comfortable you will become with the kaleidoscope of humanity in our world.
This is my wish for me and for you too.
So stay tuned. Stay brave, and
GET OUT THERE AND SEE THE WORLD!
We live on a big wide rock full of amazing and wonderful people and places beyond your wildest dreams.
If you want to know more about how I got into the travel game, check out my introductory post “What’s This All About?” for a little more info on me and my experiences (so far!).
